Shane Lacey was born in Perth, West Australia. His father, Grandmaster Vince Lacey (Lay Wing Sung), started training him at the age of three and a half.  He was first trained on just the basic punches, kicks and stances to ensure that he had a good foundation in the martial arts.  Later, at about the age of ten, he learned the ‘forms’or ‘kuens’ used in Choy Lay Fut. During this training, his father took him back to Hong Kong on several occasions to train under Sifu Kong Hing (his Si-Gung).

Shane performed his first demonstration in 1975 at his father’s first Kung Fu tournament, held in a movie theater.  It was at this Kung Fu tournament, that Shane first impressed the martial arts world.

He already had tremendous flexibility and dedication

At about the age of ten Shane began to train regularly at the Kwoon, which was situated right in the city, and he started to show great potential. By age thirteen – fifteen, Shane was already a assisting his dad and he was well liked by his fellow classmates.  As a teenager, he witnessed many of the interesting incidents that occurred up at the Kwoon.  The police had to come up on quite a few occasions!
