Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu
was created by the Great Grand Master CHAN HEUNG in 1836,
and was named out of respect for his two masters, CHOY Fook, LAY
Yau San, and finally, FUT (meaning Buddha), as a token of
respect to the monks and the Shaolin Temple.
Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu is regarded as one of the most powerful and
effective systems in the Chinese Martial Arts. The roots of this unique
style originated in the famous Shaolin Temple and it consists of both
the Northern and Southern Shaolin styles combined.
The aggressive, yet graceful movements are characterized by agility in
the waist and shoulders, plus a strong, solid foundation in footwork.
Choy Lay Fut is a highly sophisticated, complete and effective fighting
system and one of the few traditional styles that is practical for self
defense and good health. In fact, it is the most popular style in the
Chinese Martial Arts today. Bruce Lee was once quoted as saying, “Choy
Lay Fut is the most effective system that I’ve seen for fighting more
than one person, and is the most difficult style to defend against.”
Grand Master and founder of the Buk Sing branch of Choy Lay Fut
Kung Fu was Tarm Sarm, a man who possessed a natural ability as a
great fighter. Due to his constant sparring and challenge matches, he
became well known and respected throughout the Chinese Martial
Arts community.
On one occasion during his early training, while his Master Liu
Charn was away, Tarm Sarm became involved in an argument with
three brothers. The argument escalated into a full blown fight, and Tarm
Sarm defeated the three brothers. As his luck would have it,
all three brothers were his Master's Si Sook's ( junior
colleagues or Kung Fu uncles ) . Upon Master Liu Charn learning of the
fight, he had no choice but to expel Tarm Sarm from the school.
Due to the notoriety of this episode, and his growing reputation as an
undefeated fighter, Tarm Sarm decided to venture North, and it was at
Siu Buk (Little North), that Tarm Sarm established a school, which he
named Buk Sing Kwoon. This
school, and the style taught by Tarm Sarm, became the Buk Sing Branch of
the Choy Lay Fut system.
The Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Academy of Fremont is one of the
few authentic Kung Fu Schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and one that
follows the traditional ways of Chinese Martial Arts training, in
conjunction with up-to-date, modern scientific methods. The training is designed and programmed carefully to ensure that
students build a strong foundation that will enable them to develop a
healthy body and clear mind.
